{"id":1756,"date":"2025-03-31T07:59:39","date_gmt":"2025-03-31T07:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anthonyhouse.org\/?p=1756"},"modified":"2025-04-03T21:06:04","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T21:06:04","slug":"simpler-recycling-comes-into-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/anthonyhouse.org\/index.php\/2025\/03\/31\/simpler-recycling-comes-into-force\/","title":{"rendered":"Simpler Recycling comes into force"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-beyondwords-marker=\"14b825e7-a9b0-43c0-b444-7b6ed08d713f\" data-beyondwords-player=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h4><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-469701 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Simpler Recycling\" width=\"860\" height=\"516\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/iStock-1166983428-1.jpg?resize=860%2C516&amp;ssl=1\"><\/h4>\n<h4>New Simpler Recycling rules on how workplaces in England sort their recycling and waste have now come into force.<\/h4>\n<p>From today (Monday 31 March), workplaces with 10 or more employees will need to arrange for the collection of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dry recyclable materials \u2013 including plastic, metal, glass, and paper and card \u2013 unless their waste collector collects them together.<\/li>\n<li>Food waste<\/li>\n<li>Residual (non-recyclable) waste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Workplaces can decide on the size of their containers and the frequency of collections based on the volume of waste they produce.<\/p>\n<p>The measures are part of the UK Government\u2019s Simpler Recycling policy, formerly Consistency in Recycling, which it calls \u201cintegral\u201d to its commitment to move to a circular economy.<\/p>\n<p>The UK Government estimates Simpler Recycling in England will generate greenhouse gas emissions savings equivalent to \u00a311.8 billion and increase recycling rates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Circular Economy Minister Mary Creagh <\/strong>said simplifying the rules for workplaces will make recycling easier, deliver cost savings and stimulate growth.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to ending the throwaway society, boosting recycling rates which have stalled for too long, and driving growth through the Government\u2019s Plan for Change,\u201d Creagh commented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll continue to work hand-in-hand with businesses to deliver our reforms to drive up recycling rates and ensure there\u2019s more recycled content in the products we buy.<\/p>\n<h2>Recycling changes coming in 2026<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-326916 alignleft lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Paper and cardboard\" width=\"472\" height=\"283\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/iStock-1858016631.jpg?resize=472%2C283&amp;ssl=1\">By 31 March 2026, local authorities will be required to collect the core recyclable waste streams from all households in England.<\/p>\n<p>This includes introducing weekly food waste collections for most homes, unless their councils have a transitional arrangement in place, giving them a later start date in legislation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These measures mean people in England will be able to recycle the same materials at home, work or school.<\/p>\n<p>Kerbside plastic film collections from workplaces and households will also be introduced by 31 March 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Molyneux, deputy director of waste and resources regulation at the Environment Agency,<\/strong> called the implementation of Simpler Recycling a \u201cpivotal moment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to supporting businesses with their new duties. We will take a pragmatic approach to implementation and will work with stakeholders to support them in overcoming any difficulties they might face in relation to compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Workplaces with fewer than 10 employees have until 31 March 2027 to arrange for the recycling of the core recyclable waste streams.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The implementation of Simpler Recycling for workplaces follows Environment Secretary Steve Reed setting out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/news\/environment-secretary-to-set-out-circular-economy-plan\/\">new circular economy plan on 27 March<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Environment Secretary also confirmed the first five priority sectors that the independent Circular Economy Taskforce will focus on, which are textiles, transport, construction, agri-food, and chemicals and plastics.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.circulareconomyfestival.com\/?utm_source=partner_site&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=MarchFOCEBanner\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-453669 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"\" width=\"860\" height=\"106\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/CIWM-394-FOCE-25-Leaderboard-728x90px-scaled.jpg?resize=860%2C106&amp;ssl=1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/news\/simpler-recycling-comes-into-force\/\">Simpler Recycling comes into force<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\">Circular Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 New Simpler Recycling rules on how workplaces in England sort their recycling and waste have now come into force.
